Foundation cracks in Charlotte homes fall into two classes — structural and cosmetic — and the fix depends entirely on which one you have. The first thing we do is measure. Width in millimeters, direction (vertical, horizontal, or diagonal), whether the crack has offset (one side pushed relative to the other), and whether it is active (still moving) or dormant (stable). A vertical or diagonal hairline crack under 1/8" with no offset is usually shrinkage from the original pour — cosmetic, sealed with epoxy or polyurethane injection to keep water out, and no structural implication. A horizontal crack, any crack with vertical or lateral offset, or any crack over 1/4" wide is a structural concern — the foundation is loading unevenly and the crack needs a structural engineer's read before injection is scoped.
